The Delectable Mountains
The pilgrims come to the Delectable Mountains, where they are cared for by shepherds. They are refreshed and instructed. They are shown the Celestial City from afar and warned of dangers still on the road. This isn’t the end of the journey, but it is a mercy along the way.
Bunyan paints these mountains as seasons of spiritual encouragement, times when the Lord grants clearer sight, wise guidance, and renewed strength. God does not only correct; He comforts. He gives glimpses of glory to keep pilgrims pressing on.
